After closing statements by the prosecution and defense today, it took a Boyle County jury about four hours to convict Colin Montgomery for the 2018 murder of his wife, Jennifer. The jury began deliberations shortly before the lunch recess and returned a guilty verdict at about 4:30 p.m.
Montgomery is guilty of shooting his wife at the Shakertown Road home in Danville in 2018, the same day the couple signed divorce papers, according to court documents.
The plaintiff’s attorneys argued for a charge of manslaughter, claiming their client was under severe emotional distress upon learning of his wife’s alleged extramarital affair.
Prosecution argued that Montgomery finding out about the affair was not a reasonable excuse for killing his wife despite his anger and rage.
Sentencing will be carried out Thursday. Look for complete coverage in our print edition.
