Crowds gathered for the annual Snappin’ Chaplin Turtle Derby in Perryville on Saturday. About 3,000 locals attended the event, which had a kids’ corner with inflatables and games, a petting zoo, live music, a jeep show, and of course, the rubber turtle race.
Main Street Perryville Director Aly Huff said they sold out of the 2,000 turtles they had available. Attendance was higher than she expected.
The event raised around $15,000, which will go toward repairing and preserving downtown – specifically Dr. Polk’s house on Merchants’ Row, which is in major need of repairs.
Winners of the turtle derby are:
• 1st Place – $1,000 – Shea Brummett
• 2nd Place – $600 – Sandy Wiley
• 3rd Place – $400 – Robert Rehburg
