Library offers all-ages chess club; back-to-school resources

NEWS RELEASE

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, online resources, special events, and numerous services for the community. Programs often include interactive games, crafting, storytime, and book clubs. During the month of August, youth programming staff visit many of the local back-to-school events, promoting literacy and sharing with students, educators, and families information about all the library has to offer. Youth programs will resume in September, following the conclusion of the school visits. Adult programs and some all-ages events are ongoing. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Adult D&D

Dungeons & Dragons is often called the greatest role-playing game of all time. The library offers a D&D club for adults that meets at the library on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or email library@boylepublib.org. (Ages 18+)

Crafting for Keeps

At this program series you will be guided through the process of making a craft that you get to keep. On Tuesday, August 16 at 6:00 PM we will be making Hydro-painted Coaster sets. This event will be held in the Community Room. Extra supplies will be made into kits that will be available in the library lobby while supplies last. (Ages 18+)

Third Thursday Book Club

In August the book club will be reading My Antonia by Willa Cather. Join the book discussion on Thursday, August 18 at 10:30 AM in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

Crafters Who Care

On Thursdays from 6:00-8:00 PM, join us in knitting and crocheting items for those in need. This knitting and crochet group welcomes current and new members to weekly crafting meetups at the library. Some materials provided. Beginners are welcome. This event will be held in the Reading Room. (Ages 13+)

Chess Mix

On Saturday, August 20 from 2:00-4:00 PM, visit the library and enjoy an afternoon of chess and a savory snack.

This program is for all skill levels. This event will be held in the Reading Room. (All ages)

Back-to-school Resource: Tutor.com

In addition to programs, the library offers numerous resources for students, parents, and educators. Tutor.com is an online resource for students offering live tutoring, test prep, and homework help. Students of all ages can get personalized help for any kind of academic question in math, science, English, social studies, and writing. The tutors work with students in kindergarten through 12 th grade, including AP level class work and intro-level college coursework.

Connecting with a tutor is safe and easy. Patrons just need a library card and a computer or mobile device with internet access. Tutor.com is available to the public for free through the library’s website with a library card.
