John A. Grubbs, 86

John A. Grubbs, died in Danville, Kentucky on August 9, 2022, at the age of 86. He was born in Walton, Kentucky in 1935 and attended Walton-Verona Schools where he later served as superintendent of schools from 1972 until 1987. He was a 1957 graduate of Centre College, where he majored in economics. He participated in baseball and basketball there and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. During a fifteen year teaching career at Boone County High School, Danville High School, and Beechwood High School, he taught Biology and History. While coaching basketball, baseball and football. He received master of education degree from Xavier University and was awarded four fellowships from the National Science Foundation to study Biology at Duke University and the University of Kentucky. He was a charter member of Phi Delta Kappa Educational Fraternity at Northern Kentucky University. He was past president of the Northern Kentucky Superintendent Association and served on the board of directors of the Kentucky Superintendent Association and the Kentucky Association of School Administrators. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen Wesley Grubbs, sons, Kirtley and Robert, grandchildren Rollins, Natalie, and Eleanor Grubbs, and sister, Elizabeth Poore. He was preceded in death by brothers, James and Wallace (Buddy), sister, Jeanette Clore, and his parents, Wallace K. and Mary Chambers Grubbs. A private service will be held at a later date.
