Since the program was started in 1993, it has delivered gifts to more than 198 million children. One of those children is Kimheang Vance from Cambodia.

Vance grew up in poverty, her family often didn’t have enough food, so she and her siblings would work on the family farm. She also had to walk an hour to and from school and couldn’t afford school supplies.

When she was 14, she attended a home church service where she received a Christmas Child shoebox. Inside were not only school supplies that she needed, but also a booklet explaining the story of Jesus. The moment changed her life forever.

“I feel very privilaged to be able to know Jesus and live here,” Vance said. “There are no words to describe how blessed I feel.”

Vance is coming to Kentucky to share the impact that Operation Christmas Child has had on her life and to encourage Kentuckians to support the program. She will be speaking at 5 p.m. Saturday at Junction City First Baptist Church at 3860 US-127 S.

Collection of the shoeboxes will be from Nov. 14 -21. Danville’s drop of locations will be announced in October. For more Information,  call 615-962-7145, or go to samaritanspurse.org/occ.
