Boyle golfer qualifies for state tournament

Maggie Cerqueira of Boyle County qualified for the final rounds of the KHSAA girls state golf tournament by finishing in a tie for 16th place in a first-round tournament Monday in Owensboro.
Cerqueira, competing in the state tournament for the fourth consecutive year, birdied the first and seventh holes and went on to shoot 84 at Owensboro Country Club.
She earned one of the 15 individual qualifying spots for players not on one of the three teams that qualified for the final rounds Oct. 7-8 in Bowling Green.
Boyle finished sixth in the team standings with a four-person score of 414. Kendall Williams shot 107 for the Lady Rebels, followed by Hannah Bischoff at 111 and Addison Carr at 112.
Kennedy Stamper of Lincoln County, the only other local player in the tournament, shot 107 to finish in a tie for 66th place.
On Monday, Kobe Ingram of Boyle finished in a tie for 45th place after shooting 84 in a boys first-round tournament on the same course.
