The Boyle County boys soccer team (11-4-2) traveled to the west side of Jessamine county on Tuesday night and defeated the Colts (8-4-6) 3-1.

Boyle County head coach David Ritchie was proud of his team’s first half.

“We started the game with a lot of intensity,” Ritchie said. “We possessed in the midfield and caused West to chase the game.”

Senior Jack Little opened the scoring within the first 10 minutes. The ball pinballed around the box and ended up with Little. He then stuffed it into the back of the net with a volley to make it 1-0.

The early goal opened West Jessamine’s deep backline and allowed the Rebels more space to work with while going forward.

The second and third goals came in the final five minutes of the first half from sophomores Micah Brown and Alan Wireman.

After the break, West Jessamine looked like the more inspired side. Possibly a little bit too inspired because one of their forwards slid late and with studs up chasing after a ball into the leg of a Boyle County defender. The Colt forward was shown a red card. West was down to 10 men.

Moments later, a defensive error by Boyle County gave West Jessamine a surprising goal to cut the lead.

Next week, Boyle will take on Garrard County in the first round of the 45th district tournament at Rebel Stadium.
