Mary G. Hogsett Primary School Principal Suzanne Farmer has been named one of 67 residents who will serve on the Kentucky Department of Education’s new Kentucky United We Learn Council.

According to a KDE press release, the council will support the three main ideas of United We Learn, the state vision for the future of public education “creating a more vibrant experience for every student, encouraging innovation in our schools – especially when it comes to assessment – and creating a bold new future for Kentucky’s schools through collaboration with our communities.”

“It is an honor to be selected to serve on the United We Learn Council,” Farmer said. “It is especially exciting to see the make-up of the council; students, families, educators, and community members will be working in partnership to support the innovative vision for public education in Kentucky.

“I want to serve on the council because there is a need to think innovatively to make improvements to Kentucky’s process of learning including changes in assessment and accountability. I am looking forward to the council’s work to build a bold new future through deeper learning experiences, a whole-child approach, and connections to the community.”

The council will coordinate three committees that will meet regularly to work on the council’s goals and will partner with the KDE and Kentucky Board of Education, according to the release.
