Library to host model train exhibit, holiday crafts for youth

NEWS RELEASE

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities and online resources for the community. Programs include crafting, storytime, interactive games, STEM activities, and special holiday events. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Friends of the Library Special Gift Book Sale

Just in time for the holidays! On Friday, December 9 from noon to 4 p.m., the Friends of the Library will host a book sale featuring a selection of higher-end coffee table books and almost-new hardcovers. Free gift wrapping will be available. This event will be held in the library lobby. (All ages)

Holiday Train Exhibit

Model Train enthusiasts will host an extensive train display in the library lobby for the holiday season. All are invited to come see their hard work in motion. Ask questions to learn about the hobby from experts. The exhibit will be open during regular library hours through Saturday, December 10. (All ages)

Game On

Teens are invited to play Nintendo Switch and board games at the library on Friday, December 9 & 16 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. This event will be held on the 5th Level of the library. (Ages 13-18)

Teen D&D

On Saturday, December 10 from 2-4 p.m. teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. Players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. Registration is required to play. Adult D&D

The library offers a Dungeons & Dragons club for adults that meets at the library on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, December 11 at noon or 4:30 p.m. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or email library@boylepublib.org. Note: There will be no session on December 25 . (Ages 18+)

Morning Storytime & Afternoon Storytime

Join us for storytime at the library! Each week we will read stories and have a themed sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Storytime will be held Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and Thursday afternoons at 12:30 p.m. in the youth department. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. (Ages 2-5)

Crafternoon

On Tuesday afternoons at 3:15 PM, kids and tweens can explore their creative side at the library. All skills levels and imaginations are welcome to participate in new craft activities each week. The goal is to have fun creating something uniquely yours! This event will be held in the youth department.  (Ages 5-12)

Boyle County Writers

On Tuesday, December 13 at 5:30 PM, gather with fellow writers to practice your writing skills, share your work, and receive feedback from peers. Facilitated by local author Paul Stansbury, this event will be held in the Conference Room at the library. (Ages 18+)

Christmas Crafternoon

Kids are invited to join us for a very special Christmas-themed Crafternoon on Wednesday, December 14 at 3:15 p.m.. We’ll be making ornaments perfect for hanging around your home, on your tree, or giving away as gifts.

This event will be held in the youth department. (Ages 5-12)

YA Crafty Time: Holiday Edition

On Wednesday, December 14 at 3:30 p.m., teens and tweens can stop by to make two holiday ornaments using comics, books, and fabric to decorate and mod podge. Give them as gifts or keep for yourself. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 9-18)

Third Thursday Book Club

In December the book club will be reading Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes. Join the book discussion on Thursday, December 15 at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

Tween Makerspace Engineering

Tweens can put their engineering skills to the test on Thursday, December 15 at 3:15 p.m. There will be time for free build, followed by weekly challenges. We’ll be using LEGOs, Keva planks, K’nex, and marble runs.  This event will be held in the youth department. (Ages 9-12)

Tea & Trade featuring Elmwood Inn Fine Teas

Adults are invited to a cozy social event at the library on Saturday, December 17 from 2-4 p.m. Come in for a spot of tea, friendly conversation, and to share your favorite book. Participants are encouraged to bring in a copy of their favorite to give to other participants in trade. The Library will have a curated selection of their own favorites to share as well. Refreshments provided in part by Elmwood Inn Fine Teas. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)
