Dwight F. “Apple” Gordon, 71, of Junction City passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023. Born July 13, 1951, he was the son of the late Happy and Helen Saylor Gordon. Dwight Gordon, affectionately known as Apple to all, was a proud retiree of the United States Postal Service where he spent his career as a rural carrier spanning nearly four decades. His dedicated service led to him receiving the million-mile award. Apple loved sports, especially golf. He was passionate about officiating youth sports and was the first ever inductee of an official into the 12th Region Hall of Fame for Sports and an annual scholarship is awarded in his name. In 1998, Apple was recognized as a Kentucky Colonel. He was also an avid UK fan and rarely missed a game. Apple loved to people watch and never met a stranger. His grandchildren called him Papple and he had clever nicknames for each of them. Apple will always be remembered for his kindness, compassion, sage advice, and his true and giving spirit. He will be greatly missed and wonderfully remembered. Dwight is survived by his wife, Karen Baldock Gordon; daughters: LaShauna Gordon of Stanford, Chyvonna Gordon of Stanford, Brittany Gordon (Randy Emmons) of Danville, Mandy (Adam) Stocker of Danville, Bridget (Tony) Winfrey of Nicholasville, and Clarissa (Brent) Stewart of Hustonville; sister, Cheryl (Scott) Bell of Science Hill; 15 grandchildren; and nephews, Nicholas and Leslie (Trish) Kirkpatrick; and great niece, Kelsey.
Visitation is 5:30-8:30 pm, Tuesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 11 am, Wednesday with Robert Pike, officiating. Burial is in Junction City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Doyle Keith, Steve Kelley, Tony Gray, Jr., Scott Bottoms, Sean Hough, and Joey Gilpin. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and Phillip Hafley, Joe Lawhorn, Robert Boyd, Junior Sims, and Donnie Atkins. Guestbook is available at www.wlpruitt.com.
