Kent Mann is the Danville Independent School Board of Education’s newest member. He has worked as an administrator for Danville Schools before, serving as assistant superintendent and holding several other administrative roles.

He has also been an administrator at Kentucky School for the Deaf and the North Carolina School for the Deaf. He’s served as a director for Wilderness Trace Child Development Center and for Centro Latino.

In addition, he’s served the Kentucky Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, United Way, the 4-H council, has been a deacon and Sunday school teacher, and has taught virtual classes through Bluegrass Career and Technical College. Now, he teaches online language arts classes for the University of Kentucky.

He said he was selected by the Kentucky Department of Education as a Distinguished Educator as well, and he worked with low-performing districts for two years.

“I’ve always naturally been interested in the Danville Schools and Danville community,” he said about his decision to run for election onto the Danville school board.

“My biggest reason for becoming interested in being on the school board is I’ve always been a transparent person, and I really feel like you must be transparent as a board for you to have respect in the school community as well as the greater community,” he said.

During his time on the board, one area of focus he wants to have is on staff and student retention.

“I think we’re a good school district, but I think we have room for improvement,” he said.
