During the monthly meeting of the Danville Schools Board of Eduction on Jan. 23, Superintendent Greg Ross and board member Glenn Ball praised Toliver Intermediate School Assistant Principal Danny Goodwin for his role in organizing Danville’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebrations.
“As someone new to Danville, I was extremely grateful, impressed, and motivated by that day,” Ross said. “I really appreciate the work of that committee led by Danny Goodwin.”
“I have a personal connection to Dr. King. When that day comes around it’s special to me, because I have met him,” Ball said. “Even though it was cold out so many people showed up. It was beautiful day.”
The board received a report from Food Service Director Tammy Lynn. Last year, the school system served 227,415 lunches, 131,463 breakfasts, and 5,747 after school snacks.
“Our schools really work hard to feed our kids,” said Lynn. “Our summer feeding last year, we served 3,980 breakfast, 7,592 lunches, 195 suppers. We had 13 locations for summer feeding.”
The school system was reimbursed 45,951 dollars by the federal government for their summer feeding program.
