Boyle County Middle School Receives AGC 2022 “Build Kentucky” Award

Branscum Construction Company was honored to be selected as a recipient of the 2022 AGC of Kentucky “Build Kentucky Award” for the New Boyle County Middle School. For the last 27 years, the Associated General Contractors of Kentucky has presented the Build Kentucky Awards in acknowledgment of the Commonwealth’s most outstanding construction projects. Branscum Construction has received numerous AGC of Kentucky Build Kentucky Awards in previous years.

On Thursday evening, January 19th, CEO Stephen Branscum was honored to share this prestigious AGC of Kentucky “Build Kentucky Award” with Boyle County Superintendent Mike LaFavors and the Boyle County Board of Education for the construction of the new Boyle County Middle School. This award is widely recognized throughout the construction industry, as it exemplifies quality in construction, innovation in construction techniques, state-of-the-art advancement, community improvement, project management, and environmental sensitivity performed on a project. The Boyle County Middle School project met all the requirements for the Build Kentucky Award in the New Building category.

This new 134,000 sqft Boyle County Middle School and Performing Arts Center is a two-story facility with open, flexible instructional space for 900 students and is designed to incorporate artistic learning. With the design creativity of Clotfelter Samokar Architect, this school is leading the charge of what future schools will look like. The entrance to the school is a tall, all-glass, storefront that invites everyone into the building with an abundant amount of natural light. Once inside, you are greeted with a bright color scheme for a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. There is an incredibly open and spacious media center with a collaborative learning area, a cozy sitting area, a glass rail balcony, and a fireplace. There is a robust network and infrastructure to support technology in the classrooms. Additionally, there is an outside courtyard that allows learning to be moved outdoors on those beautiful Kentucky days.

The Boyle County Middle School was designed and built with a Performing Arts Center to allow students to showcase and nurture their talents, and learn every facet of theater and performing art. The 500-seat theater features a large stage, green room, dressing rooms, and storage rooms. The Performing Arts Center has a separate entrance with a vestibule and lobby to allow the theater to be used after school hours for practices and performances. The theater also includes a state-of-the-art orchestra pit, lighting package, and sound system. Astonishing 62-foot-tall concrete walls allow for a fly loft and catwalk system above the stage. The Performing Arts Center offers drama, dance, instrumental and vocal music, art, technical theater, promotional media courses, intensive training, and more.
