Danville was the center of the sports world in Kentucky on Friday – at least for a few hours.

Kentucky Sports Radio, the popular UK-centered sports talk radio show, and its warm-up broadcast, the KSR Pre-Show, were on location Friday in Danville at Lee’s Famous Recipe.

“I’m excited! I’m a huge KSR fan, I’m a Kentucky alumni,” said Famous Recipe owner Justin Newton. “I know some of the guys listen to (the show) every day, so I thought it would be really cool for the town of Danville to get them out here and have a live broadcast here.”

The show features the four-man team of KSR founder Matt Jones, along with Ryan Lemond, Drew Franklin and Shannon “The Dude” Grigsby.

Lee’s was packed full of fans eager to watch the broadcast — and eat chicken.

Topics for discussion included a preview of Saturday’s UK game vs. Auburn, possible seeding in the NCAA Tournament, pending hazing legislation and a quiz on the busiest roads in Lexington.

“I’ve been listening to the show almost since the beginning,” said Danville resident Derik Hunt. “I’m off on Fridays, so I try to come to every remote in Danville and surrounding areas, so here I am.”

Friday was the first time KSR had broadcast from Danville since the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It’s been a couple years since they have been here,” Newton said. “They are excited to get back this way and for the town to see them. It’s the first time they have ever done it here at Lee’s, so we’re excited to have them. We are having a good turnout here. When Matt and the boys come into town you know it’s going to be a good time.”
