Area athletes win titles at KTCCCA State Championships

Three area athletes won individual championships recently at the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Indoor State Championships in Louisville.

Beau Brown and Jai Maria Piazza of Mercer County won two events each and Abigail Bastin of Lincoln County won one in the meet March 4 at Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center.

Brown, the 2022 KHSAA outdoor champion in the Class 2A boys 200-meter dash, took first place in the 60 and 200 dashes in the Class 2A boys competition.

He won the 60 in 7.12 seconds and the 200 in 22.49 seconds. He was also third in the long jump.

Piazza was first in the Class 2A girls 60 hurdles and long jump. The 2022 outdoor state champion in the 2A girls 100 hurdles, she won the 60 hurdles in 9.28 seconds and cleared 17 feet, 1 inch in the long jump at the indoor meet.

She was also third in the 200 dash.

Bastin won the Class 2A girls 800 run in 2:18.91. She was the 2021 outdoor champion in the 2A girls 1,600 run. She was also third in the 1,500 run.

Other area athletes with top-three finishes were:

Thaddeus Mays of Mercer, second in the boys long jump and triple jump.

Andrew Hardwick of Boyle County, second in the boys shot put.

Andrew Lockhart of Boyle, third in the boys pole vault.

Luke McQueen of Casey County, third in the boys shot put.

Ralasia Piazza of Mercer, third in the girls triple jump.
