Elga Green Brock, Jr (E.G.), 87, passed away on March 21, 2023 in Grovetown, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother (Elga, Sr. and Myrtie Brock), his Wife (Donna Brock), his Brother (Newell Brock) and 3 Sisters – (Nora Bogie, Nina Deatherage, and Della Brock). He was born on January 20,1936 in Stanford, KY and celebrated 58 years of marriage to his wife. He loved his family and was beloved by the community.
E.G. lived and worked on his family farm while working full-time at IBM in Lexington for 25 years, Sammi Sound in Danville for 7 years, and finally at the Stanford Walmart for 12 years.
E.G. loved Gospel music and singing about the Love God has for each of us. During his life, he formed several Gospel groups to include, the Gospel Rhythm Quartet, The Travelaires, The Spokesmen Quartet, and finally the Singing Brock Family. It was during his tenure with the Spokesmen, that he was presented and honored with a “Kentucky Colonel” membership after appearing at a Cancer Charity event hosted in Lancaster.
Survivors include: Rick (Doreen) Brock of Grovetown, GA; Rhonda (Rick) Beane of Evans, GA; Rodney (Stephanie) Brock of Lancaster, KY; 3 Grandchildren: Brittany (Joe) Halbert, Graniteville SC, Justin (Shelby) Beane, Harlem GA, and Elga Todd Brock, Lancaster, KY; and 1 Great-Granddaughter (Holly Halbert).
Visitation will be at the Spurlin Funeral Home located in Stanford KY on March 25th from 11am – 1pm followed by a grave-side service officiated by Cecil Berry at the Danville Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Justin Beane, Rick Beane, Dohn Deatherage, Joe Halbert, and AJ Johnson. Honorary bearers are Keith Deatherage, Arnold Johnson, Dave Mefford .
