Library to host Earth Day celebration, document shredding event

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, and resources for the community. Programs are available for all ages and include interactive games, crafts, and weekly storytimes. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:
Chess Mix
On Saturday, April 15 from 2:30-4:30 PM, visit the library and enjoy an afternoon of chess and a savory snack. This program is for all skill levels. This event will be held in the Conference Room. (All ages)
Morning Storytime & Afternoon Storytime
Join us for storytime at the library! Each week we will read stories and have a themed sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Morning Storytime will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 AM. Afternoon Storytime will be held on Thursdays at 12:30 PM in the youth department. An ASL interpreter will be at Storytime on Tuesdays. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. (Ages 2-5)
Crafting for Keeps
At this program series you will be guided through the process of making a craft that you get to keep. On Tuesday, April 18 at 6:00 PM we will be making Stencil Silhouettes. Participants will need to bring a profile photo of a person, pet, or object sized for 8.5×11” paper. We’ll turn the photo into a stencil and use it to make a piece of minimalist art. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)
Kid STEAM Lab: Rainbow Whirligigs
On Wednesday, April 19 at 4:00 PM, kids are invited to combine science experiments and art for a fun STEAM project. This week we will be making colorful rainbow whirligigs. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Kids)
Third Thursday Book Club
In April the book club will be reading Started Early, Took My Dog by Kate Atkinson. Join the book discussion on Thursday, April 20 at 10:30 AM in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)
Earth Day Celebration
On Thursday, April 20 from 3:30-5:30 PM, celebrate Earth Day at the library! Join us to make recycled materials crafts and watch a Disney Nature documentary while you create to view the wonders of Earth and all creatures that live here. There will be something fun for everyone to enjoy as we celebrate and support protecting the Earth! This event will be held in the Community Room. (All ages)
Document Shredding Event
On Friday, April 21 from 2:00-5:00 PM, there will be a document shredding event at the library, courtesy of FNB Investment Services. All are welcome to bring items to shred at the DocuBit shred truck where you can watch your items be shredded. No x-rays or plastics will be accepted. Those with questions may call 859-238-0606 for more information. During this free event, donations for the community garden at Bate-Wood Homes will be accepted. Teen Game On
Teens are invited to play Nintendo Switch and board games at the library on Fridays from 3:30-5:30 PM. This event will be held on the 5th Level of the library. (Teens)
Teen D&D
On Saturday, April 122 from 2:00-4:00 PM teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. Players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. This event will be held on the 5th Level. (Teens)
The ABCs of Dog Training – Informational Workshop
On Saturday, April 22 from 2:30-4:30 PM, the Boyle County Public Library will be hosting a workshop aimed at helping you improve your furry friend’s education, discipline, and enrichment. Offered in partnership with local dog trainer Danielle Livasy, this session will focus on clicker training. There will be information and techniques taught that you can practice at home with your pet. (Please do not bring your dogs to this session.) This event will be held in the Community Room. (All ages)
Adult D&D
The library offers a Dungeons & Dragons club for adults that meets at the library on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, April 23 at noon or 4:30 PM. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or email library@boylepublib.org. (Ages 18+)
BCPL Seed Library
The BCPL Seed Library is now open to the public. Located on the main level of the library near the entrance to the Reading Garden, patrons may check out up to five seed packets per month. No library card is required to participate. Planting guides are available and can be photocopied if needed. Seed donations are also accepted. Those who have extra seeds that they would like to share with the community can visit the Circulation desk for complete details on how to donate. The BCPL Seed Library is a free service to the community and is offered in partnership with The Garden Club of Danville.
Free Tax Prep
The Boyle County Public Library has partnered with the AARP Foundation and the United Way of the Bluegrass to host free tax preparation service. Tax professionals will be set up in the library each week on Tuesdays and Saturdays through April 18th to assist people with the tax filing process. This service is made possible through Tax-Aide and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs. These tax preparation services are available by appointment only.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide tax assistance services will be available on Tuesdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Although anyone can make an appointment, the program is especially focused on low-to-moderate income taxpayers who are age 50 and older. United Way of the Bluegrass VITA Tax Preparation Assistance will be available by appointment on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, for people with eligible household incomes.
