Mary G. Hogsett Primary School has a new principal.

Pamela Hambrick, who was assistant principal at Hogsett for four years, was selected for the role, effective immediately. She has been the interim principal since March. Former principal Suzanne Farmer is now Chief Academic Officer for the Danville Independent School District.

Hambrick said she is looking forward to taking students and staff to the “next chapter” of what they will be able to accomplish together at Hogsett.

“I’m excited for Hogsett to continue to be the entry point to Danville Schools,” she said. “We help support students and families as they learn how to be students and set the trajectory for graduation and what comes after that, building the foundation of learning and ensuring they are excited about learning, and that we are offering opportunities for them to see that learning takes place at school but also outside of school as well.”

Hogsett focuses heavily on developmentally-appropriate practices at all grade levels, which includes making sure students have opportunities for multiple types of learning, whether it be small-group learning, whole-group learning, or experiential learning, meaning learning by doing.

Hambrick said Hogsett makes sure learning is not only hands-on, but that it also involves students’ families and gets them actively engaged. One way Hogsett does this is by offering family nights to help families understand the role they play in their children’s learning, and to connect them to community resources and opportunities.

“I love getting to work with our youngest learners,” Hambrick said. “I look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve the students and the families in the district, to help them be successful, and become successful adults.”

She’s also looking forward to a continued partnership with staff.

“Staff and I have a really great working relationship, so I look forward to having their continued input on decision-making, as well as helping to make those strategic plans that will lead us forward as a school,” Hambrick said.

Kindergarten Teacher Lisa Denny said she has loved working with Hambrick as an assistant principal and knows she will do just as well as principal.

“She has a strong background in this age of children, which is so beneficial,” Denny said. “I know I can approach her with any concerns I may have. Hogsett is blessed to have her step into this role as Suzanne moves to Central Office.”

Preschool Teacher Maggie Colwell said Hambrick’s previous role as assistant principal also included duties related to preschool.

“As the preschool director, she helped form a solid program for our youngest learners,” Colwell said. “She has already gone above and beyond for our staff, families and students. I am excited to see her lead Hogsett in her new role as principal.”
