An inmate at the Boyle County Detention Center demonstrated quick thinking Monday, potentially saving the life of another female inmate. According to reports from detention center deputies, inmate Josephine Filbert administered the Heimlich maneuver to a choking fellow inmate.

Deputies responded to a medical emergency in a female cell and observed Filbert taking immediate action to dislodge an obstruction from the other inmate’s airway. Thanks to her quick and decisive actions, a potentially tragic outcome was avoided.

“Ms. Filbert’s heroic efforts should be commended,” said Jailer Brian Wofford. “In situations like this, quick thinking and action are critical. It is important to recognize that even those who have made mistakes can still do good and positively contribute to the community.”
