The Great American Brass Band Festival this past weekend was a success, bringing hundreds of locals and visitors to downtown Danville and Centre College.
Visiting bands and local groups marched down Main Street during Saturday’s parade, braving the almost 90-degree sunny weather. Festival Director Michaelle Perros said the festival went great overall, and volunteers did an excellent job.
She said she’s pleased with the attendance they estimated, although it can be difficult to judge numbers with a free festival. She said they had many first-time attendees.
“People especially enjoyed the changes in the music,” Perros said. “We had a mix of the traditional and more modern tastes, which seemed to suit a wide array of people. It was great to have many new musicians on the stage which in turn brought in a new audience.”
She continued, “Our approach to variety, diversity, and culture speaks to more people. We hope to continue to be able to bring that variety and mix of genres and styles to fuel this free, cherished event.”
