Funds were also approved for the Kentucky Dock Dogs club for a competition in July. The group received $2,500 from the CVB board for this year’s event, which will be held at The Showroom July 21-23. Dock Dogs is a canine-aquatics event where dogs run along a 40-foot-long dock and then jump into a 40-foot-long pool to see which dog can jump the furthest, highest and fastest.

The number of competitors at the Kentucky Dock Dogs events has increased each year, with 202 in 2018 and more than 400 competitors in 2022, along with up to 2,000 spectators. It brings visitors and competitors for the weekend from throughout Kentucky and from out of state as well.

The third funding request approved by the tourism board was from the Danville-Boyle County African American Historical Society, which received $1,000 for the Soul of Second Street Festival, scheduled for Aug. 11-12.

The festival celebrates the rich history of the African American community in Danville and Boyle County and will include a history conference and music festival at Constitution Square. More than 2,500 people attended Soul of Second Street in 2022.

“There are several events in Danville and Boyle County throughout the year that attract thousands of visitors to our community,” said Kendall Clinton, executive director of the Danville-Boyle County Tourism Office. “We help promote these events as well as providing direct funding to allow them to do their own advertising and marketing to reach as many people as possible.”

The tourism office sets aside funds each year to help various organizations promote events that bring visitors to the community.
