Danville man charged with evading police

On June 8 at 2:51 a.m. Danville Police observed a vehicle with improper taillights being operated erratically around 2nd Street and Dorothy Avenue.

At one point the vehicle stopped abruptly on Waveland Avenue. The vehicle proceeded toward Baughman Avenue where a traffic stop was attempted. The vehicle failed to yield to the officer’s emergency equipment and turned onto Hustonville Road. The Suzuki Grand Vitara continued at slow speeds south on Hustonville Road before turning onto Logan Avenue. The operator of the vehicle then turned into a driveway. The driver refused to exit the vehicle and began cursing and yelling at officers and telling them to shoot him.

After several minutes of de-escalating the situation, the driver of the vehicle complied and exited the vehicle. Once out of the vehicle the subject was taken into custody without incident. Gregory A. Gabbard, 28, of Danville was arrested and charged with fleeing/evading police 2nd degree (motor vehicle), disorderly conduct 2nd degree, menacing, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Danville Police were assisted at the scene by the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office.
