Danville’s Mays contributes to Kentucky All-Stars’ series

Love Mays of Danville scored 23 points in two games for the Kentucky All-Stars as they split their two games in the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star series last weekend.

Mays, a UT Martin signee, had the third-highest point total on the Kentucky girls squad in both games.

She scored 14 points Friday to help the Kentucky girls squad defeat Indiana 72-62 in Owensboro. She also had four rebounds, three assists and three steals in 28 minutes.

On Saturday, she scored nine points in the Kentucky stars’ 71-67 loss in Indianapolis. She also had seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in 36 minutes.

All-State baseball, softball

Eight area baseball and softball players have been named to All-State teams in their respective sports.

Summer Ray of Boyle County and Evan Hart of Mercer County were named to All-State first teams in softball and baseball, respectively.

Softball

Ray was a Class 2A first-team selection by the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association, which names All-State teams in three enrollment classes.

The Murray State signee led Boyle in batting average (.506), home runs (10), doubles (10), hits (45) and RBIs (41).

Samantha Bottom of Danville was named to the Class 1A second team, and Courtney Sandy of Boyle received honorable mention in Class 2A.

Lauren Tipton of Boyle was named to the East seniors team that will play in the Kentucky East-West All-Star games Saturday in Williamsburg.

Baseball

Hart was a first-team selection by the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association.

The Kentucky signee went 7-3 with a 0.76 earned-run average and 123 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings for Mercer. He also batted .344 and led the Titans in home runs (4) and RBIs (30).

Cameron Owens of Boyle was named to the second team. Merrick Graham of Garrard County, Kason Myers of Boyle and Sam Matherly of Danville were on the third team.
