Stephen Douglas “Doug” Terry, 77

Gallatin County resident Stephen Douglas “Doug” Terry died Wednesday, June 7, at his home. He was 77.
Born September 7, 1945, in Danville, Doug as the son of Kinnard and Juanita Key Terry.
While attending Danville High School, Doug was a gifted football player who, with his team, won the State Championship in 1962.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1970 and served in various regions of the world while performing reconnaissance missions.
He married Linda Chepes in 1976 and they celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary just one week prior to his death.
Doug retired from the U.S. Postal Service and served on the Carroll County Water Board for many years.
Doug had many friends and interests, including golf, at which he excelled. His home course was Fairway Golf Course in nearby Wheatley, but he played with his friends at some of the most famous golf courses in the world, including Pebble Beach in California, St. Andrews in Scotland and the Robert Trent Jones’ championship courses in the south.
He also enjoyed traveling with his family, attending concerts and horse races.
Most precious to him were the times spent with his granddaughter.
Doug leaves behind a host of friends and is survived by his wife, Linda; sons Stephen Douglas Terry II and Joseph Scott Terry; one granddaughter, Cora Terry; one brother, Darrell Terry of Danville; two aunts, Ruth Key Brackett of Danville and Lucille Terry Curtis of Danville; and three nieces.
