During the June meeting of the Danville School Board, interim superintendent Dr. Elmer Thomas thanked the board for choosing him to act again as interim superintendent.

“I’m thankful for the board and community for having me back,” said Dr, Thomas. “I’m looking forward to the great work that is ahead of us. I have met with the 3 chiefs and the finance director. I think with those four meetings we have been very quickly able to get a focus, direction, and a plan for academics as we move into the next year. You will see some really good things there on how we plan to grow the district.”

Thomas will fill the void left when Greg Ross resigned last month. Thomas also was interim superintendent before Ross was hired last year.

Thomas currently is an adjunct professor at Eastern Kentucky University and Asbury University. In this capacity, he teaches courses leading to certification in administrative roles in education. Most recently, he was the superintendent for Madison County Schools.

In other news from the meeting, the Summer Youth Nights at the Park will take place every Thursday through July at Millennium Park near the basket ball court. Summer Youth Nights is a program created by the Danville Schools Equity Council that provides safe family friendly activities for Danville teenagers. Board member Melinda Weathers said she hopes that the board can use the program as a method of connecting with the students and community.
