Gary F. Whitis went to his heavenly home on August 9th in Somerset, KY. He and his twin sister Terri were born March 18, 1954 in Danville, KY to Ralph and Jeraldine Anderson Whitis. He grew up in Moreland where he and the family dog “Beebop” walked to the Moreland School until it closed. He graduated from Hustonville High School and was a student at Eastern KY University. He began his work career in Moreland on the farm raising beef cattle and working with his dad. He mowed lawns for several neighbors, worked for his grandfather in Junction City, and drove a fuel delivery truck from his Dad’s Texaco bulk plant in Danville. In 1974 he began his career with Norfolk Southern Railway, working as clerk and dispatcher for 37 years. Gary loved adventure: dirt biking, water skiing, flying a small airplane, and golfing. During his retirement he had the opportunity to travel and make many new friends. His willingness to help friends and neighbors earned him the name “Mr. Fix-it”. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Howitt Whitis, his daughters Kellee (Jeff) Thurmond and Alyssa Whitis, his grandchildren Ally, Ben, and Drew Thurmond, his brother Barry (Susan) Whitis, and his brother-in-law Kevin Stewart. Visitation and funeral will be at W L Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland, KY. Visitation is from 11am-1pm, Saturday, August 12th, funeral at 1pm with graveside service to follow in Hustonville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland. A guestbook is available at www.wlpruitt.com.
