Lester Cornett, 90

Lester Cornett completed his 90-year journey on August 19, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents Harrison and Ora Mae Baker Cornett, his first wife Waneta Coots Cornett and his second wife Peggy Sue Beeler Cornett, a son David Benjamin Cornett, a sister Ola Mae Cornett, and a grandson Seth Cornett. He is survived by his brother Dennis (Peggy) Cornett. He was a loving father to his surviving children; Patty (Jim) Bradshaw, Mark (Christenna) Cornett, John (Laura) Cornett, Adam Cornett, Paul (Jil) Cornett, Leslie (Nick) Day. He was also the proud grandfather of 16 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was born and grew up in Pine Mountain, Harlan County, Ky, which he left in 1953 to serve in the air force as a Radar operator and in-Flight Plan Control at Catalina Island. After completing his service, he remained in California where he attended Heald College, and American River Junior College majoring in electronics. He worked for McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Company, at the Missile Test Center as a Missile Field Checkout Technician, where he worked on the Genie, Thore, Titan, and Saturn missiles. He left there in 1969 to go back home to Kentucky, landing in Danville and a job with Whirlpool as a Maintenance Technician.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for which he and his wife Peggy served an 18-month mission in Texas. He was always ready to serve, and he and his truck made many trips to help others. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, raising bees, and spending time with family.

Services will be held Tuesday August 29, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 101 Waterworks Road, Danville KY 40422. The visitation will be from 9:30-11:30 with the funeral following at 12:00.
Burial will be at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford KY
