Lyle M. Becker, age 69, of Somerset, formerly of Danville, passed away on August 18, 2023, while enjoying a fly-in fishing trip in Canada.
Lyle was born March 12, 1954, in Glendive, Montana, to the late Henry and Nellie Becker. He graduated from Blackduck High School in Bemidji Minnesota then moved to LaJunta, Colorado, where he began working at ARKVA School, a special needs school. It was there he met Anne Shannon Bacon, who was working as a teacher and eight months later they were married at St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. For several years he worked as a meat cutter at a family business. They later moved back to Danville where Lyle worked as a meat cutter before being employed by RR Donnelley and retired after 20 years as a journeyman pressman. He then worked for seven years at James B. Haggin Hospital in the maintenance department.

Fishing throughout his life gave him joy, whether on a lake, mountain stream, or pond. Many friends have called him “The Fish Whisperer”, as he had this sense of where the fish would be successfully caught. He tied fishing flies for Tie-A-Thon, who donated the flies to nonprofit organizations. Many great fishing experiences were had across the states. Camp Horsin’ Around held a very special place in his life and Lyle had great enjoyment in helping the other campers learn and enjoy fishing in the pond. He ensured the equipment was ready to use, kept the pond looking beautiful, and the boathouse clean.
Lyle had a tender, caring heart and had never met a stranger. He always loved helping others, was strengthened by faith, and loved taking care of his family. Woodworking, being a handyman, going to UK volleyball games, and watching basketball were other interests. For 46 years Lyle and Anne Shannon enjoyed traveling, cruises, snow skiing, Colorado’s mountains, visiting family and friends, quilting, and life adventures with his soulmate. Lyle will be greatly missed but we have memories and times shared to light our path.
Lyle is survived by two brothers, Randy (Nancy) of Hamilton, Ohio, Stan (Theresa) of Miami Oklahoma; a sister, Alice Brittian of Glendive, Montana; niece and nephews, and many friends and their families considered his family as well.
