Nearly 1,800 people were on hand Sept. 16 for the return of the Constitution Square Festival in Danville.

It was the second consecutive year for the festival after a hiatus of several years.

The even grew in its second year, with more than 70 vendors on hand to display their wares.

“It is a nice and steady turnout,” said Jeff Jewel, executive director of the Danville-Boyle Chamber of Commerce. “There is less chaos than last year, but still a nice steady flow of people which is good. We have music all day long, people are really enjoying it and having great fun.”

The fair’s purpose is to increase engagement throughout the community, said Arts Commission executive director Mimi Beckery.

“We have an increase in the number of vendors and participation from the farmer’s market as well,” Becker said. “We are really pleased. We have a lot of community groups giving out information. That is the whole concept of an old fashioned festival in a community. Community groups, food, art, and people.”

The festival is held in celebration of Constitution Day on Sept. 17, the anniversary of the 1787 signing of United States Constitution.
