Joyce Faye (Oakes) Hook

Joyce Faye (Oakes) Hook was born June 14, 1956, in Berea, Kentucky and passed away October 10, 2023, at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee after a very short battle with lung cancer.
Joyce was a graduate of Garrard County High School where she was a member of the choir and the drum major for the Golden Lion marching band. Joyce continued her education at Sue Bennett College in London, Kentucky and Berea College in Berea, Kentucky.
She was an active member of her church and was involved in many groups where she lived. She was an
avid reader, lover of music and art and had an undying passion for life. Joyce brought laughter and light wherever she went. She unfailingly volunteered to lend a helping hand to her neighbors and friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Thurman Oakes, her mother, Frances (Brewer)(Oakes) Adams and her brother Robert “Bobby” Oakes.
She is survived by her daughter Nicole (Potts) Hernandez and her partner, Holly Carpenter, her daughter Ashley Sparks and her brother Harold Oakes and his wife Cindy, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Joyce made the selfless decision to donate her body to science to help ensure she could continue to help
as many people as possible.
In lieu of flowers, the family would respectfully request donations to a local hospice or similar charity of your choice.
