Library to host Monster Bash and Fall Bonfire

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, online resources, and numerous services for the community. Programs often include storytimes, crafting, gaming, and art exhibits. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Teen D&D

On Saturday from 2-4 p.m. teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. Players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. New players are always welcome. This event will be held on the 5th Level on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. (Ages 14-18)

Baby Storytime

Join us on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. for a storytime just for babies. Each week, Ms. Rachael will read themed stories and have a sensory activity for babies from birth to 18 months and their caregivers to enjoy. Baby Storytime will be held in the Community Room with the books & theme changing each week. (Ages 0-18 months)

YA Creative Club: Poetry & Prose

Calling all artists, writers, crafters, and creatives! Join us each week for YA (Young Adult) Creative Club, where tweens and teens can try out fun creative projects, learn new writing skills and artistic techniques, share their work, and meet new creatively-minded friends. On Tuesday from 4-5:30 p.m., in conjunction with the Frank X Walker Creative Arts Festival, special presenters will guide participants through a poetry-writing workshop. The poems produced in this workshop may be submitted for the festival’s Creative Arts Olympiad. This event will be held in the Conference Room. (Ages 11-18)

Frank X Walker Visual Art Exhibit – Opening Reception

On Tuesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m., the Boyle County Public Library will host an opening reception for the Frank X Walker Visual Art Exhibit, which will feature numerous multi-dimensional pieces by the author-artist. The exhibit will be on display in the Georgia de Araujo Gallery at the library October 17-28. All are invited to attend the opening reception. Light refreshments will be served. This event offered in conjunction with the Frank X Walker Creative Arts Festival and in partnership with Danville Independent Schools. (All ages)

Tranquility Tuesday

On Tuesday at 6 p.m., explore all the ways you can reduce stress and manage anxiety by incorporating mindfulness techniques into your daily life. We will learn and try a variety of mindfulness activities, such as mindful eating, deep breathing, body scan, and more. This program will be offered on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at the library in partnership with the Boyle County Cooperative Extension Service. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

Morning & Afternoon Storytime

Each week we will read stories and have a themed sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Morning Storytime will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Afternoon Storytime will be held on Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. in the youth department. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. (Ages 1-5)

Kids Fall Fun: Creepy Cartoons

Join us on Wednesdays for some fall fun this month! On Wednesday from 4-5 p.m., we’ll be watching creepy cartoons to relax into the spooky season. This event will be held in the Youth Department. (Ages 6-10)

Third Thursday Book Club

In October the book club will be reading Digging to America by Anne Tyler. Join the book discussion on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

YA Gaming Guild: Players’ Pick

Calling all gamers! Join us at the library on Thursdays from 4-5:30 p.m. for YA Gaming Guild, where tweens and teens can relax, play games, have some snacks, and hang out with other gamers. This week, you and your fellow gamers will get to pick what you play from the library’s huge collection of board games, and multiplayer video games for the Nintendo Switch. New and returning gamers are always welcome. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 11-18)

Monster Bash

Bring the family and celebrate all things bone-rattling, spine-tingling, and spooky with the Boyle County Public Library on Friday from 4:30-7:30 p.m. We’ll have zombie face painting, spooky crafts, monster mashing in the parking lot with instruction by Out There Creative Arts & Dance, and a spooky movie suitable for all. (Youth & Families)

Chess Club

On Oct. 21 from 2-4 p.m., the library’s collection of chess boards will be set up in the Reading Room. This monthly club provides a dedicated time and quiet place for a friendly game of intellect and strategy. (All ages)

Fall Bonfire

Fall evening bonfires are a classic way to socialize and relax, so grab yourself a seat at ours. On Oct. 21, the library will host a social hour with marshmallows to toast and hot cider to warm your bones from 5-6 p.m. Then from 6-8 p.m., local writers from our fall flash-fiction horror writing workshop will share the creepy, spooky, and strange stories they created. This event will be held in the Library Park. (Ages 18+)
