Undercover, online investigations lead to 2 arrests

Boyle County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a pair of individuals after conducting undercover online operations targeting sexual predators.

On Oct. 19, a deputy posing online as a juvenile was contacted by Paul Norton, 47 of Horse Cave via social media requesting sexual performances. Norton asked to come to Danville to pick the child up and take the child back to his residence to have sexual intercourse. The sheriff’s office, in alliance with the Hart County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant and an arrest warrant for Norton at his residence in Horse Cave on Oct. 23. Norton was arrested and transported back to Boyle County where he was lodged at the Boyle County Detention Center on the charge of Promoting and Procuring a Minor for Sexual Performances by Electronic Means, a Class D felony. This investigation is still pending further charges.

The following day, deputies made contact with another individual during a similar undercover event. The deputy conducting the undercover operation and posing as a juvenile female was contacted by James Alpine, 61 of Mooresville, Indiana, requesting sexual intercourse. After numerous requests for sexual relations and the distribution of obscene photos of himself, Alpine drove to Danville where he planned to rent a hotel room to engage in sexual relations with the juvenile. Boyle County Deputies had arrived and were conducting undercover surveillance when they observed Alpine enter the parking lot of the hotel. Alpine proceeded to contact who he believed was a juvenile female and requested the child to meet him at a gas station to avoid detection. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and arrested Alpine. He has been charged with Procuring or Promoting Sexual Performance of A Minor by Electronic Means, a Class D felony, Distribution of Obscene Matter to Minors 1st Offense, a Class A misdemeanor.
