Library to host Hygge Day, other activities

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, online resources, and numerous services for the community. Programs often include weekly storytimes, crafting programs, and gaming events. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:
Hygge Day
Hygge (pronounced HUE-ga) is a Danish word meaning a quality of coziness, comfort, and contentment. Stop by the library on Saturday, Dec. 9 between noon and 4:3 p.m. and enjoy a special lounge complete with warm drinks, gentle music, and good reading recommendations. There will also be optional relaxing activities you can try. Stop by to warm your bones and find your Hygge. This event will be held in the Reading Room. (Ages 18+)
Teen D&D
On Saturday, Dec. 9 from 2-4 p.m. teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. Players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. This event will be held on the fifth level. (Ages 14-18)
Adult D&D
Dungeons & Dragons is often called the greatest role-playing game of all time. The library offers a D&D club for adults that meets at the library on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, Dec. 10 at noon or 4:30 p.m. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or via the event listing on the library’s website, or email library@boylepublib.org. (Ages 18+)
Baby Storytime
Join us on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. for a storytime just for babies. Ms. Rachael will read themed stories and have a sensory activity for babies from birth to 18 months and their caregivers to enjoy. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 0-18 months)
YA Creative Club: Holiday Ornaments
Join us for YA (Young Adult) Creative Club, where tweens and teens can try out fun creative projects, learn new artistic techniques, and meet creatively-minded friends. Join us on Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 4-5:30 p.m. as we make dazzling holiday ornaments. Use paint and a variety of other materials to decorate natural-wood ornaments in your own personal style, just in time for the holiday season! This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 11-18)
Boyle County Writers
On Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 5:30 p.m., gather with fellow writers to practice your writing skills, share your work, and receive feedback from peers. Facilitated by local author Paul Stansbury, this monthly event will be held in the Conference Room at the library. (Ages 18+)
Morning & Afternoon Storytime
Join us for Storytime at the library! Each week we will read stories and have a themed sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Morning Storytime will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m.; Afternoon Storytime will be held on Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. in the youth department. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. Note: All storytimes will take a break the last two weeks in December. They will resume in January. (Ages 1-5)
Kids Cartoons: Holiday Favorites
On Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 4 p.m., youth and families are invited come to the library as we gather together to watch some of our favorite holiday cartoons in our pajamas! Make sure to bring your snuggliest blanket to this family-friendly activity. This event will be held in the Youth Department. (Kids & Families)
YA Gaming Guild: WIN-ter Wonderland
Calling all gamers! Join us at the library on Thursday, Dec. 14 from 4-5:30 p.m. for YA Gaming Guild, where tweens and teens can relax, play games, have some snacks, and hang out with other gamers. This week, celebrate the holiday season with your fellow gamers! Enjoy winter-themed games along with some special holiday treats. As always, you’re welcome to bring your own gaming consoles, laptops, and games to share with your friends. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 11-18)
Social Mixer & Pop-up Potluck
On Thursday, Dec. 14 from 6-8 p.m., share your favorite recipes and learn some new ones in the best way possible — by eating them with friends! This month’s theme is Holiday Favorites. Alethea Bruzek with the Boyle County Extension Office will get things started, but all are encouraged to bring something in. You can even add your recipe to the library’s collection! This is a social event with food to share, friends to be made, and fun to be had. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)
Chess Club
On Saturday, Dec. 16 from 2-4 p.m., the library’s collection of chess boards will be set up in the Reading Room. This monthly club provides a dedicated time and quiet place for a friendly game of intellect and strategy. (All ages)
