Danville Small Town Christmas, a new downtown event, and the Christmas parade were scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9. But they were moved to Friday because of expected rain on Saturday. Despite the changed plans, both events were a success with hundreds of locals in attendance.

As part of Small Town Christmas, families gathered at 4 p.m. in Weisiger Park to enjoy live music, shopping at local vendor booths, kids activities like bounce houses, pictures with Santa, cookies and hot chocolate, cotton candy and other food. The park was lit up with a giant Christmas tree, the brand new fountain, Christmas lights around new trees as part of Danville’s Streetscape project, and new street lights.

The parade commenced at 7 p.m. with many local businesses and groups displaying elaborate, colorful floats. The Grand Marshals were Dr. John Roush and Susie Roush.

The Danville Holiday Committee announced winners of the three parade contests. They’re listed below:

Judge’s Choice:

First Place – Boyle County Arts Academy.

Second Place – AMVETS.

Best Float:

First Place – Pinkston Electric.

Second Place – Sheehan and Barnett.

Best non-float:

First Place – Boyle County Humane Society.

Second Place – Melissa Lanham, equestrian.
