Mercer boys top Admirals

Mercer (5-1) continued its hot start by beating Danville (1-6) in its largest win to date, 74-73 over the Admirals.

Trevor Ellis had 25 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Titans, who dominated the game by dominating the boards.

The Titans outrebounded the Admirals 46-19 with 18 offensive rebounds. John Lincoln Perry had seven rebounds and Kaleb Murray had four for Mercer.

Mercer led 23-8 after a 15-0 run late in the first quarter and early in the second that included five points by Murray and four by Perry. It was 38-21 at halftime, a 10-0 run in the third quarter made it 57-29 and the Titans led by as many as 33 points.

Braidin Baughman scored 13 points and Trevarion Paige added nine for Danville, which is rebuilding after losing its top five scorers from last season. Paige also had six rebounds.

Mercer got 10 points from Owen Barnes, who transferred from Danville this summer, and nine from Murray.
