MLK celebration set for Monday

The City of Danville and Boyle County Fiscal Court are sponsoring a Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration on Monday, Jan. 15.

The day will start with a community march at noon. The march begins at Danville City Hall and will go to Danville High School.

A program will begin at 12:45 p.m. with special readings, singing from a community choir led by Minister Bobby Harris, and the keynote speaker will be Mauricus Lofton.

Lofton is a Danville native and has been a practicing attorney for more than 11 years, currently working in Washington, D.C. Lunch will be provided after the program while supplies last.

The march is roughly 0.7 miles in length. Transportation will be available to those who are unable to walk the distance, from City Hall to the high school, and on the way back.

On Monday night, Centre College will host a MLK convocation at 7 p.m. at Newlin Hall in the Norton Center. Honorable Judge Melissa Moore Murphy will be the keynote speaker. Murphy is a judge of the Kentucky 22nd District Court 4th Division in Lexington.

All events are free and open to the public. ASL interpreters will be provided.
