David Lee Reynolds passed away Jan. 15, 2024, at his farm located outside of Perryville. He was born May 19, 1938, the youngest child of Bertice and Elizabeth (Shewmaker) Reynolds. David was married 65 years to his wife, Janet Crain Reynolds.

A lifelong resident of western Boyle County, he graduated in 1956 from Perryville High School where he co-captained the six-man football team as co-champions of the Blue Grass League in 1955. Following his stint as a barber and owner of the Hurry Back Barber Shop in Perryville, David became a licensed auctioneer in the early 1970s and co-founder of Helm & Reynolds Realty and Auction, along with his wife, Janet, and high school classmate, Bruce L. Helm; a business they continued until their retirements in 2015. David also pursued his lifelong love of farming by acquiring and operating multiple tracts of land in Boyle County primarily as a beef producer, as well as trading in an ever-changing variety of exotic animals. In 1988, he joined four other Perryville farmers to become a co-owner of New Harrodsburg Tobacco Warehouse until its sale in the early 2000s.

Affectionally known as “Poodle” based on the childhood nickname given to him by his oldest brother, he is survived by his wife, Janet Ann (Crain) Reynolds; two sons, David Todd Reynolds (Paige Wilson) of Perryville, and Troy Denton Reynolds (Pedro Flores) of Bethesda, Maryland; his grandson Andrew (Drew) Reynolds (Rebecca Hundley) and their son and his great-grandson Denton Hayes Reynolds, all of Perryville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
