Library to host Hobby Hunt; plus weekly activities for all ages

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, online resources, and numerous services for the community. Programs often include storytimes, crafting programs, art exhibits, and gaming events. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Chess Club

On Saturday, January 20 from 2-4 p.m., the library’s collection of chess boards will be set up in the Reading Room. This monthly club provides a dedicated time and quiet place for a friendly game of intellect and strategy. (All ages)

Baby Storytime

Baby Storytime is offered at the library on Mondays at 10 a.m. This is a special storytime for babies and their caregivers to strengthen bonds and give encouragement for playing, reading and growing. This weekly event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages birth-18 months)

Winter Fun: Tape Art!

On Monday, Jan. 22 at 4 p.m., kids can join us for some tape art! Tape, paint, pull and voila! You have art! Come and create with us as we make and take home our very own tape art. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 6-10)

Y.A. Creative Club: Construction Challenge

The library hosts a weekly YA (Young Adult) Creative Club, where tweens and teens in grades 6-12 can try out fun creative projects, learn new artistic techniques, and meet creatively-minded friends. Join us on Tuesday, Jan. 23 from 4-5:30 p.m. for Construction Challenge, where you can create architectural wonders using LEGO bricks, K’nex, and other fun construction materials, or build virtual creations using Minecraft’s Creative Mode. Challenge your friends to see who can create the tallest tower, the strongest bridge, or the most inventive masterpiece. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 11-17)

Storytime

Each week we will read stories and have a themed sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Storytime will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. in the youth department. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. (Ages 1-5)

Y.A. Gaming Guild: Overcooked Chaos

Calling all gamers! Join us at the library on Thursday, Jan. 25 from 4-5:30 p.m. for YA Gaming Guild, where tweens and teens in grades 6-12 can relax, play games, have some snacks, and hang out with other gamers. This week, work with your friends to cook food and fulfill customer orders in Overcooked 2 for the Nintendo Switch! New and returning gamers are always welcome. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 11-17)

Hobby Hunt

On Thursday, Jan. 25 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., local hobbyists and professionals will set up shop in the Boyle County Public Library to put their hobbies on display. Our volunteers are willing and eager to teach you all about their pastimes. Stop by and hunt yourself a new hobby. Check-in at our welcome table in the lobby to get started. (Ages 18+)

Adult D&D

Dungeons & Dragons is often called the greatest role-playing game of all time. The library offers a D&D club for adults that meets at the library on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, Jan. 28 at noon or 4:30 p.m.. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or via the event listing on the library’s website, or email library@boylepublib.org. (Ages 18+)

12 Days of Winter Reading Challenge

You’re invited to celebrate the season with 12 Days of Winter Reading! Everyone who completes 12 days of reading by January 31, 2024 is a winner in this winter reading challenge. Use your Beanstack account to track your reading to earn a 2024 Library calendar and chances to win our Grand Prizes. When you finish the first 12 days of reading, you’ll receive a chance to enter the Grand Prize drawings. Every time you complete 12 days of reading you earn an additional entry into the Grand Prize drawings. All ages are encouraged to participate. More information, including photos of the prize bundles, is available on the library’s website. (All ages)
