Boyle girls win fourth straight regional bowling title

The Boyle County girls won their fourth consecutive 8th Region bowling championship; and a host of Boyle bowlers qualified for the state tournament both as teams and as individuals.

Boyle defeated Johnson Central in the finals for the fourth straight year, winning 3-0 on Jan. 24 at Galaxy Bowling Center in Richmond.

The Lady Rebels won 190-157, 215-155, 220-170 to complete a sweep of their four opponents in the championship bracket. They had 3-0 victories over Corbin, Madison Southern and Fleming County in the first three rounds.

The following day, the Boyle boys lost to Johnson Central 3 1/2 -2 1/2 in the finals of their championship bracket.

The boys qualified for state by finishing as one of the top two teams.

Five Boyle bowlers qualified for state as individuals by finishing in the top four in the boys and girls singles brackets.

Shelbi Webb was the girls individual runner-up and qualified along with teammates Peyton Ramey and Emma Kondik, who finished third and fourth. Cody Kondik finished third and Nicholas Jayne was fourth in the boys bracket.

Lincoln County bowlers Jordan Hall and Adam Spears won the regional championship in the unified division, defeating a West Jessamine duo 171-170 in the finals.

The state tournament will be Monday through Wednesday at Kingpin Lanes in Jeffersontown.
