During the Perryville City Council meeting on Feb. 1, the council welcomed the new city clerk Tanya Bruton to the position, after the previous clerk Trista Hinkle resigned last month.  

“We had a good pool of candidates,” said Perryville Mayor Rob Kernodle. “We were very impressed with Bruton. She has stepped up and has done an excellent job.”

The city received 39 applications and interviewed eight candidates for the position.

During Perryville Fire Chief Nathan Steven’s monthly report, he announced that members of the Perryville Fire Department have been receiving EMS training, and that the fire department will begin responding to EMS calls in the city. 

Stevens explained that Highway 150 in Perryville was closed for roughly eight hours last month due to car accidents, and that Perryville experiences long response times for ambulance calls.

“Pulling records, you are talking EMS getting to Perryville in 15 minutes,” Stevens said. “In cardiac arrest and stuff like that, it is pretty severe. We have had EMS medics start working with our guys to figure out what they need so they can start making EMS runs. The city deserves it and we are a long way from Danville. It is something that needs to be done.”

Firefighters who do not receive full EMS training might still receive training for first aid, CPR, or bleeding. The department’s rescue truck is equipped with all the necessary supplies for common medical emergencies. Equipment used for their calls will be resupplied by Boyle County EMS.

“We carry for just about any medical run,” Stevens said. “Torniquits, oxygen, an AED. We can get you stabilized before EMS arrives. When they get here, they can just load you up and go.”

The audit of Perryville’s 2022-2023 fiscal year came back clean of discrepancies. At the end of the fiscal year, the city was found to have $1,667,485 in total assets with a net equity of $469,505.
