Carolyn Sue Woodrum Lentz peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on February 6, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Carolyn was born on July 15, 1955, in Boyle County, Kentucky, to Ulis Levi Woodrum and Georgia Taylor Woodrum.

Carolyn attended Boyle County High School, where she was a cheerleader and there met the love of her life, Michael King Lentz. She later attended the University of Kentucky in Lexington, and Guilford College in Greensboro, NC.

Carolyn and Mike married in September 1972, and enjoyed living in Lexington, KY- going to UK basketball and football games, and spending time with friends and family in the bluegrass state. In 1987, they relocated to Greensboro, NC, where they raised three loving daughters. Carolyn carried her love of cheerleading from Kentucky to North Carolina and enjoyed coaching and mentoring countless numbers of young ladies in the sport.

Her other hobbies included refurbishing furniture and floral design. She took her love of floral design and opened a floral business in Greensboro. As a lover of all animals, she especially enjoyed the love and companionship of all of her pets, as well as watching the wildlife that found safe haven at their homes.

She had a successful work career that included working at FMC in Lexington, KY as a production planner, and at Donaldson in Nicholasville, KY. After moving to Greensboro, she worked at Panel Concepts, and then as a purchasing expert at Kay Chemical. Even after retirement, she continued to work part-time at Ametek in Whitsett, NC.

Carol and Mike both fully retired in 2010 and eventually realized the fruits of their many years of hard work by moving to their dream home in Myrtle Beach, SC in August of 2022.

She is survived by her loving husband, Mike, and her three daughters: Tracy Lentz, of Oak Ridge, NC; Susie Lentz Mitchell (Michael Mitchell), of Kernersville, NC; and Cassie Lentz Horton (Gavin Horton), of San Diego, CA. She adored all her grandchildren: Kaley and Dylan Mitchell, Georgia and Sadie Grant, and Savannah Horton.

Carolyn also leaves behind three sisters: Emma Woodrum Burns (Sam Burns) of Greensburg, KY; Lena Woodrum Staten of Junction City, KY; and Shirley Woodrum Lewis of Danville, KY. She was grateful for her extended family: Rick and Renee Lentz of Wilsonville, AL; Julie and Scott Bingler of Harrisburg, NC; and Ms. Anne Harter Lentz Wilson of Salisbury, NC. Carolyn loved all her nieces and nephews and their families, and enjoyed spending time with her family whenever she could.

Special friends considered family include Tommy and Alice Mitchell of Greensboro, NC, and Linda Overton.

She fought her cancer with an amazing spirit and a quiet determination; she had an extended life of quality with the help of an amazing team, including the doctors and staff at Duke Hospital in Durham, NC, specifically Dr. Kelly Westbrook and Dr. Whitney Abel, and her loving, faithful husband. Special thanks also goes to the staff at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, NC, and to all her family and friends for all their support, encouragement, and love throughout the years.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, February 24, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Arbor Run Clubhouse: 7575 Haw Meadows Drive, Kernersville, NC 27284. The family invites everyone to join to remember the wonderful times and beautiful smiles shared with Carolyn during her life.
