Y.A. Creative Club

The library hosts a weekly YA (Young Adult) Creative Club, where tweens and teens in grades 6-12 can try out fun creative projects, learn new artistic techniques, and meet creatively-minded friends. Join us on Tuesday, March 12 from 4:00-5:30 PM for Miniature Fairy Doors. Paint a miniature fairy door in your own personal style, then decorate it with three-dimensional accessories like flowers, butterflies, moss, and more! Place your finished door at the base of a tree or wall to complete the illusion that a fairy or other small creature lives inside. This event will be held on the 5th Level. (Ages 11-17)

Boyle County Writers

On Tuesday, March 12 at 5:30 PM, gather with fellow writers to practice your writing skills, share your work, and receive feedback from peers. Facilitated by local author Paul Stansbury, this monthly event will be held in the Conference Room at the library. (Ages 18+)

Storytime

Each week we will read stories and have a themed sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Storytime will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 AM in the youth department. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. (Ages 1-5)

“Pi oh Pi, Math Can Be Fun!”

The Friends of the Library will host their 2024 Annual Meeting on Thursday, March 14 at 4:00 PM. Find out what’s happening with the Friends, elect officers, and enjoy refreshments and giveaways! Guest speaker Dr. John Wilson, Centre College Math Professor, will present a small sample of delicious mathematical ideas that are most appropriate on Pi Day. This whimsical use of numbers falls into the area of recreational mathematics. Many puzzles, games, and card tricks have just a bit of mathematics at their core. In this talk you will see a card trick based on rearrangements called permutations that are common objects of study in many areas of mathematics. You will also explore the logic and theory of sets that can be found in a new puzzle called Squarely. In keeping with the theme, we’ll be serving individual pies in a variety of sweet and savory flavors. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

Y.A. Gaming Guild

Calling all gamers! Join us at the library on Thursday, March 14 from 4:00-5:30 PM for YA Gaming Guild, where tweens and teens can relax, play games, have some snacks, and hang out with other gamers. This week, you and your fellow gamers will get to pick what you play from the library’s huge collection of board games, and multiplayer video games for the Nintendo Switch.  New and returning gamers are always welcome. This event will be held in the 5th Level. (Ages 11-17)

Social Mixer & Pop-up Potluck

On Thursday, March 14 from 6:00-8:00 PM, share your favorite recipes and learn some new ones in the best way possible — by eating them with friends! In honor of Pi Day, this month’s theme is Pies. Alethea Bruzek with the Boyle County Extension Office will get things started, but all are encouraged to bring something in. You can even add your recipe to the library’s collection! This is a social event with food to share, friends to be made, and fun to be had. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)
