Covid-19 victims memorial tree planted at Constitution Square

Danville and Boyle County citizens gathered at Constitution Square Park on Monday, March 4 to remember the lives lost due to Covid-19.
In Boyle County, the virus has taken the lives of 181 people.
A white dogwood tree has been planted at Constitution Square Park behind the old post office, in memory of Boyle County victims. A plaque under the tree was dedicated by the City of Danville and Boyle County Fiscal Court.
Local leaders attended and led the service, including Danville Mayor J.H. Atkins, Boyle County Judge Executive Trille Bottom, Boyle County Health Department Director Brent Blevins, City Commissioner Jennie Hollon, VP of Community Engagement with Ephraim McDowell Health Libby Mayes, and Ephraim McDowell Volunteer Chaplain and owner of Walden Funeral Home David Walden.
Those in attendance had the opportunity to honor lost loved ones, and speak the names of family and friends who were lost to COVID-19.
The first Monday in March has been designated as the COVID-19 Victims Memorial Day.
