The Fiscal Court presented a life saving award to a local citizen at their meeting on Feb. 27.

Local citizen Kacey Lanham successfully performed CPR on an unresponsive person. Lanham said she learned CPR at Boyle County High School. 

Lanham had found an unresponsive man in a public restroom who appeared to be experiencing an overdose. She called 911, then began CPR as an ambulance was on its way. 

EMS Director Mike Rogers said the patient was able to be resuscitated, and later left the hospital neurologically intact.

Rogers said he has always been an advocate for citizens learning hands-only CPR because when someone falls unresponsive, they have a better chance of survival if someone performs CPR before an ambulance arrives.

“In Boyle County we always talk about having a system, and the system starts with our dispatchers … but on the other side of that phone is the most important part, and it’s our citizens,” Rogers said. “We have to be able to get them to do what Kasey did so that we can have better outcomes.”

The court presented Lanham with a life saving award certificate. The court also presented a challenge coin to EMS in recognition of excellent patient care resulting in a life saved.

Homelessness
The court passed a joint homelessness and food insecurity resolution with the City of Danville. The resolution states that Heart of Kentucky United Way will handle funds for addressing homelessness in the county. 

Parties determined that it would be easier for people requesting and donating funds to go to one source, instead of having to go through the city, county, and/or other sources. 

So instead of coming to the county, any request for funding would go to United Way. Then the county and city will each have two representatives on a committee that would determine the allocation for projects related to homelessness.

The resolution does not specify any certain dollar amount that the court is dedicating to homelessness at this time.

Organizations and individuals wanting to donate to homelessness causes can also reach out to United Way.

In other business: 

• The court appointed Assistant County Attorney Sarah Bryant to the Homelessness Taskforce.
