Bettie Pence

Bettie Marie Bryan Pence of Stanford, Kentucky, passed away on March 15, 2024, just a few weeks after her 100th birthday. Born on February 21, 1924, in Stanford, KY to the late William B. Bryan Sr. and Ruth Lyon Bryan. She is the widow to the late Alfred Harris Pence, Sr. Bettie was a strong, independent woman, whose boundless love for her family and community marked her as a pillar in the hearts of all who knew her. A faithful member of the New Beginnings United Methodist Church, Bettie’s devotion to her faith was evident in her kindness and generosity.
Bettie was a woman of many talents and passions. She co-managed the Coleman’s Pharmacy with her beloved husband, Alfred Sr., for many years, earning the title of Stanford Business Woman of the Year for her dedication and hard work. Bettie was also known for her love of flowers and gardening and was an active member of the Stanford Garden Club. Her love for history led her to be a part of the Lincoln County Historical Society.
Survivors include two sons, Alfred Harris Pence, Jr. (Jackie) of Stanford and William E. Pence of Stanford; two daughters, Ruth Anne Lowe and Bettie Sue Holthouser (James); twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Pence, Sr.; parents, William Bryan, Sr. and Ruth Bryan; and two brothers, Charles Robert Bryan and William Bell Bryan, Jr.
Visitation has been scheduled for Friday, March 22, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at10:30 a.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford, KY.
