Library to host a crochet club for adults; egg painting

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, online resources, and numerous services for the community. Programs often include storytimes, crafting programs, art exhibits, and gaming events. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Adult D&D

Dungeons & Dragons is often called the greatest role-playing game of all time. The library offers a D&D club for adults that meets on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, March 24 at noon or 4:30 PM. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. Baby Storytime

Baby Storytime is offered at the library on Mondays at 10:00 AM. This is a special storytime for babies and their caregivers to strengthen bonds and give encouragement for playing, reading and growing. This weekly event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages birth-18 months)

 

Healthy Choices

On Monday, March 25 at 1:00 PM, the Library will host “Healthy Choices.” Offered in partnership with the Boyle County Extension Office, this program series will include lessons focused on cooking skills and stretching your food dollars. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

 

Y.A. Creative Club: Spring Egg Painting

The library hosts a weekly YA (Young Adult) Creative Club, where tweens and teens in grades 6-12 can try out fun creative projects, learn new artistic techniques, and meet creatively-minded friends. Join us on Tuesday, March 26 from 4:00-5:30 PM for Spring Egg Painting. Celebrate springtime with egg-cellent homemade decorations! Paint and decorate egg-shaped wooden ornaments in your own personal style. This event will be held on the 5th Level. (Ages 11-17)

 

Beginner’s Short Fiction Writing Workshop (Part 2)

On Tuesday, March 26 from 5:30-7:30 PM, the library will host the second session of an instructional writing workshop to help beginners learn how to structure and write stories. Led by local author Paul Stansbury, this 4-part workshop is intended for individuals with little or no experience in writing short fiction who wish to develop their writing skills. The remaining sessions will be held on April 2 and 9. This series will be held in the Conference Room. (Ages 18+)

 

Storytime

Each week we will read stories and have a themed sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Storytime will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 AM in the youth department. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. This week, storytime kids can have their photo taken with Benjamin the Library bunny! (Ages 1-5)

 

Y.A. Gaming Guild

Calling all gamers! Join us at the library on Thursday, March 28 from 4:00-5:30 PM for YA Gaming Guild, where tweens and teens in grades 6-12 can relax, play games, have some snacks, and hang out with other gamers. This week, join us for Players’ Pick where you and your fellow gamers will get to pick what you play from the library’s huge collection of board games as well as our collection of multiplayer video games for the Nintendo Switch! New and returning gamers are always welcome. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 11-17)

 

Crochet Club

On Thursday, March 28 at 6:00 PM, the library will host the Fourth Thursday Crochet Club. This gathering will kick off a new monthly series focused on community, conversation, and crocheting (or knitting). Any and all fiber arts are welcome! Bring your own yarn, needles, and projects, or take from our limited supply and we’ll work independently while gathering with others. This month, we will focus on meeting each other, getting to work on our projects, and brainstorming ideas for this group into the future. This event will be held in the Reading Room. All are welcome. (Ages 18+)

 

Gathering Artists Spring Exhibit: “Other Worlds” 

The Boyle County Public Library is hosting the Gathering Artists Spring 2024 Exhibit, “Other Worlds,” in the Georgia de Araujo Gallery through March 28. The exhibit features the works of numerous regional artists. Each piece of art reflects how the artist imagines other worlds. (All ages)

 

Free Tax Prep

The Boyle County Public Library has once again partnered with the AARP Foundation and the United Way of the Bluegrass to host free tax preparation service. Tax professionals will be set up in the library each week on Tuesdays and Saturdays through mid-April to assist people with the tax filing process. This service is made possible through Tax-Aide and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs. These tax preparation services are available by appointment only.

  • AARP Foundation Tax-Aide tax assistance services will be available on Tuesdays from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Although anyone can make an appointment, the program is especially focused on low-to-moderate income taxpayers who are age 50 and older.   • United Way of the Bluegrass VITA Tax Preparation Assistance will be available by appointment on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, for people with eligible household incomes. A Spanish-speaking interpreter will be available to assist by phone at any appointment.
