Library to host a germination station; at-home archiving workshop

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, online resources, and numerous services for the community. Programs often include storytimes, crafting programs, art exhibits, and gaming events. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Adult D&D

Dungeons & Dragons is often called the greatest role-playing game of all time. The library offers a D&D club for adults that meets on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, April 14 at noon or 4:30 PM. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or via the event listing on the library’s website, or email library@boylepublib.org. (Ages 18+)

Baby Storytime

Baby Storytime is offered at the library on Mondays at 10:00 AM. This is a special storytime for babies and their caregivers to strengthen bonds and give encouragement for playing, reading and growing. This weekly event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages birth-18 months)

 

Healthy Choices

On Monday, April 15 at 1:00 PM, the library will host “Healthy Choices.” Offered in partnership with the Boyle County Extension Office, this program series will include lessons focused on cooking skills and stretching your food dollars. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

 

Germination Station

Are you looking to start a garden or trying to grow your collection? The library will be hosting a seed germination program on Monday, April 15 from 3:00-5:00 PM. Visit the station then take home a starter set of seeds to plant this spring. This event will be held in the Library Rotunda. If you are unable to attend this program, we’ll also be set up at the Third Thursday event in downtown Danville later this week. (All ages)

 

Y.A. Creative Club

The library hosts a weekly YA (Young Adult) Creative Club, where tweens and teens in grades 6-12 can try out fun creative projects, learn new artistic techniques, and meet creatively-minded friends. Join us on Tuesday, April 16 from 4:00-5:30 PM for Crafternoon. Get inspired as you explore the library’s collection of artistic, writing, and crafting materials. Let your imagination guide you to create something new and exciting to take home at the end of the day! This event will be held on the 5th Level. (Ages 11-17)

 

Storytime

Each week we will read stories and have a themed sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Storytime will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:30 AM in the youth department. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. (Ages 1-5)

 

At-Home Archiving

On Wednesday, April 17 at 3:00 PM, local history librarian Jon Nicholson will share how to preserve and organize your historic material at home. This presentation will include information on identifying the preservation needs of materials, the best way to organize your items, and how to store them long term. You will also learn what materials you’ll need for preservation and where to get them, along with easy mitigation methods to avoid damage from environmental factors. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

 

Third Thursday Book Club

In April the book club will be reading The Book of Lost Friends by Lisa Wingate. Join the book discussion on Thursday, April 18 at 10:30 AM in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

 

Y.A. Gaming Guild

Calling all gamers! Join us at the library on Thursday, April 18 from 4:00-5:30 PM for YA Gaming Guild, where tweens and teens in grades 6-12 can relax, play games, have some snacks, and hang out with other gamers. This week, join us for Smash Clash where you’ll compete against seven of your fellow gamers in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch! New and returning gamers are always welcome. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 11-17)

 

Unleash Pawsitivity: Dog Tricks

On Thursday, April 18 at 6:00 PM, local dog trainer Danielle Phillips will present a canine trick show followed by a Q&A session. This event will be held in the Community Room. (All ages)

 

Sounding Joy Pop-up Mini Concert

On Thursday, April 18 at 7:00 PM, stop by the library during the Third Thursday events downtown to catch a pop-up mini concert by chorale group Sounding Joy. This event will be held in the Library Lobby. (All ages)

 

BCPL After Dark: Paint by Stickers

On Saturday, April 20 from 6:00-7:30 PM, try “painting” a different way.  Be guided by a pattern or create your own freeform masterpiece. This is a mess-free way you flex your creative muscles. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

 

Document Shredding Event

A DocuBit shred truck will be on-site to shred your documents on Monday, April 22 from 2:00-5:00 PM. You can watch as your items are safely destroyed at this free event. (No X-rays or plastic will be accepted, however staples and paperclips are okay.) All paper waste is recycled. This event is offered in partnership with FNB Investment Services.

In addition, they will also be accepting donations for the Community Garden at Bate-Wood Homes: vegetable seeds, herb seeds, equipment, gardening tools, etc. For questions, call (859) 238-0606. This event will be held in the Library Park. (Ages 18+)
