The Boyle County baseball team hosted its 12th annual Strike Out Cancer game Tuesday at its game with Danville.
The event honors those who are battling or have battled cancer, and funds raised through T-shirt sales and donations are typically given to someone with a connection to the team or to Boyle County schools who is fighting cancer.
This year’s honoree was Eddie Caldwell, a longtime supporter of Boyle athletics and a former chairman of the Boyle County Board of Education who is battling liver cancer.
Caldwell was joined by members of his family and players from both teams for a pregame ceremony in which Boyle players released balloons in honor of loved ones who have battled cancer. His sons, Brent and Devin Caldwell, threw and caught a ceremonial first pitch.
