A flower arrangement doesn’t have to be a vase or bowl of pretty flowers. Sometimes arrangements take on offbeat forms and materials.
A Master Level judge for flower shows was the speaker at the April meeting of the Garden Club of Danville. Elspeth Cobb, left, a member of the club, introduced her mentor, Donna Hopkins from the Garden Club of Frankfort. Hopkins displayed three creative designs.
Pictured is a Diagonal Line Design using both fresh and dried materials, including a long-necked gourd and bamboo sticks painted white. Two white hydrangea blossoms against a black and white background complete the arrangement.
She explained the principals and elements of floral design and the interpretive use of materials. Cobb has been attending floral design classes conducted by The Garden Club of Kentucky and has reached the level of Student Judge.
