Jerry Ralph Greer, 92

Jerry Ralph Greer, 92, of Danville, passed away April 22, 2024 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 18, 1931 in Fogertown, Kentucky to the late Willie D. and Oma Caudill Greer. He is survived by his wife, Jessie Amburgey Greer. Ralph graduated from the Anville Institute and enlisted in the US Navy and served for four years on the USS Manchester. He was an entrepreneur, who owned a road construction family business, Greer Brother’s and Young. Their company built a lot of the roadways on I-75, including Jelico, which he was most proud of. They sold their business in 1971, and he continued another company, 4G Corporation, a coal company with his three brothers. 

Ralph loved farming, raising black Angus cattle for many years. Continuing on after his road construction retirement, he was involved in many positions, such as working for the City of Danville, for many years. Holding positions leading Bellevue Cemetery as well as Public Works Superintendent. He also was a member of the Danville Garden Club and the Historic Danville Beautification Board. He was an avid gardener, leader, and mentor to many that loved him.

Surviving is a son, Derek Greer (JC Pendleton) of Danville; a granddaughter, Victoria Kenley (Kody) of Forkland; great-grandchildren, Weller and Wynonna Kinley of Forkland; and a bonus grandchild, Laura Elwyn of Danville. Ralph was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Miranda Greer and siblings, Larry, Loy, and Doug Greer.

Funeral services will be 11am Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, April 26, 2024 from 4-7PM at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Bingham, John Bowling, Vickie Greer, Jason Mitchell, Donnie Mize, Gina Branaman, Debbie Ann Johnson, Latreesha Cook, Kody Kenley, and Blue Smallwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to his alma mater, Anville Institute. www.preston-pruitt.com
